The FDA has issued a public alert regarding all food imported and distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors Inc. doing business as East Africa Boutique LLC.

The warning against the Louisville, KY, company covers a wide variety of food, including infant nutritional cereals and baking ingredients. Some of the food may not include the company name on labeling.

Dozens of products are involved in the warning. A list of those products can be found here.

The Food and Drug Administration reports that the implicated foods pose a serious health risk, potentially leading to various illnesses, including leptospirosis, hantavirus infection, salmonellosis, yersiniosis, E.coli infection, and rat-bite fever. People should contact their healthcare provider if they suspect they have developed symptoms.

The FDA is working with Pan-African Food Distributors, which has agreed to recall a number of products. The list of products will be updated as more information becomes available.

Inspectors found that the distributor was storing products under insanitary conditions and that the products were contaminated with filth.

The FDA is aware that potentially contaminated product is available at retail locations and is working to determine wher potentially contaminated product was distributed. Retailers that have purchased products from Pan-African Food Distributors dba East Africa Boutique should not sell or distribute these products.

Consumers should check their homes for the products distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors and discard all products. If you do not know if your product was distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors, throw it away. Additionally, consumers should carefully clean and sanitize surfaces that could have come in contact with potentially contaminated products.

The state of Kentucky has mandated the firm halt operations because it does not have a permit. The state has implemented a blanket quarantine of the firm’s products.
