Haribo has recalled sweets in the Netherlands because of potential contamination with cannabis.
The recall covers Happy Cola F!ZZ 1,000 grams with a best-before date of January 2026.
The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) said there are packs in circulation with sweets that can lead to health complaints, such as dizziness, when consumed.
Dutch media reported several members of one family became ill after eating the sweets.
So far, the incident involves only three bags, but Haribo issued a recall of the product as a precaution. The batch has production code L341-4002307906.
Authorities including the NVWA are investigating the cause of the incident in cooperation with Haribo.
Food authorities in Luxembourg have also issued a recall. They said distribution was possible at various points of sale in the country from Nov. 13, 2024 to Feb. 14, 2025.
“The safety of our consumers is our highest priority and Haribo takes this incident very seriously, which is why a recall has been issued in the Netherlands. Haribo is working closely with the authorities to support their investigation and establish the facts around the contamination,” said a spokesman for Haribo.
